2010 ITP QuadCross Champions Crowned at Glen Helen Raceway
Glen Helen Raceway hosted the final round of the 2010 ITP QuadCross ATV Championship over the weekend, and a new crop of ITP QuadCross ATV champions has been crowned after some fast and furious racing. The combination of great weather and an expertly prepared track made for perfect racing conditions, and riders took full advantage of them in some of the best races of the 2010 season.
Dustin Nelson clinched the Pro 450 Production class title, taking his seventh victory of the season after battling with points rival Beau Baron. Dustin was in second place behind Beau at the end of the first lap in moto 1, but quickly made his move and went on to lead the rest of the moto. Baron was never far behind, and had closed the gap to just .7 seconds at the finish line. Moto 2 was less dramatic, as Dustin lead every lap for a 1-1 score for the day.
Jason Dunkelberger took both the race win and the ATV championship in the Open Pro class with a late-race push for the lead. Jason spent the first five laps of moto 1 behind second-in-points Kody Evans, but a hard charge on lap six granted Jason the lead and the fastest lap of the race at 2:31.629. ATV Moto 2 was a similar story, with Jason taking the lead in the fifth lap, then finishing first for 1-1 victory. This marks Jason's fourth ATV win of the season, and put him 22 points ahead in the race for the title.
The Pro/Am ATV class had two winners after Saturday's race. Greg Smith went 1-1 to take the ATV race win, but it was Justin Jones who claimed the title after racing to a sixth place finish in both motos for sixth overall despite riding with an injured leg. The 34 points Justin earned were enough to eclipse points-rival Garrin Fuller and grant him the title.
With the season now drawn to a close, Glen Helen Raceway would like to thank everyone who participated in this year's ITP QuadCross ATV series, and congratulate our new champions on their success!
Glen Helen Raceway also hosted REM Motocross, and Off-Road Short Course races over the weekend. Fans and racers alike were treated to spectacular racing action in both events, with the high speeds and exhilarating jumps and turns that everyone has come to expect from Glen Helen Raceway.
