Napa Yamaha shop closes

It’s the end of the road for Yamaha of Napa.
The motorcycle shop closed abruptly last week, another victim of difficult economic times.
“It’s sad because it happened so fast,” said owner Jeff Monroy. “I kept reducing my costs and laying off people, and it kept getting worse,” he said. “I just couldn’t pay the bills any more.”
Monroy said February gross sales were down 85 percent compared to February of 2009.
“Usually, parts and service keep us going through the winter,” he said. But this winter, even those customers were few and far between. “People don’t have the money to bring their bikes in.”
Previously in the auto financial services industry, Monroy said he and a partner started the small business in late 2004. The shop sold motorcycles, scooters, all-terrain vehicles, watercraft and generators. At one point, Monroy had nine employees.
